18 pre-made character sheets for Dolmenwood

Hey folks, Let me share these pre-made character sheets with you. They can be useful if you, like me, need to organise a one-shot but they can be handy as well if one of your characters dies and the player does not have a secondary sheet ready to go. There are 8 humans, 3 Breggles, 3 Mosslings, 2 Woodgues, 1 Elf and 1 Grimalkin for a total of 18 sheets, 2 for each class. A couple of notes: The distances are expressed in Goblin Grasps (Symbol: *), my native Dolmenwood measurement unit; 1 Goblin Grasp is 1.5 meters or 5 feet, aka 1 square in most dungeon grids. The sets of attributes have been randomly rolled, but I picked for each class a set with a +1 or +2 bonus in their specific prime abilities and I made sure to use sets with a cumulative bonus of +1 or +2. The characters are going to be used for a Winter's Daughter One shot, therefore abilities that are not likely to enter into play (like the knight Horsemanship) are not listed. Human Bard Woodgrue Bard Human Fighter Mos...

Deep Carbon Observatory Adventure log - Introduction

I'm currently running Patric Stuart's Deep Carbon Observatory for my in-person group in Dundee, Scotland - see my review here . We're using the Dolmenwood ruleset with a handful of house tweaks; you can find our House Rules document here . Our table has seven regular players plus an additional intermittent player. Of the eight, two are new to OSR gaming, and one is completely new to TTRPGs. Before diving into DCO, we ran four sessions of a slightly hacked version of Tomb of the Serpent Kings, an excellent introductory module you can download here . This helped the group learn the system and pick up a level before the main adventure. We've just completed session 11. I'll be posting write-ups of the earlier sessions here, with new entries published as we continue playing. At the start of session 05 - our first session inside Deep Carbon Observatory - the party consisted of: Players & Characters Ash - North, Elf (Level 1) Calum - Hogrid, Human Cleric (Level 2) D....

Review of Deep Carbon Observatory Remastered

Author: Patrick Stuart Artist: Scrap Princess Maps: Dirk Dietwielle I am currently running this module. I tried to keep spoilers to a minimum, but if you are one of my players, please read this after the end of the campaign. Thank you. Just buy this! This is one of the most interesting TTRPG modules I have ever run. Foundational. It will give you a new perspective on what an adventure can and should be. Even if you don't run it, it is so full of ideas, evocative concepts, and amazing art that it is worth your money anyway. The module, in essence, is a dungeon delve preceded by a hex crawl. An ancient dam has collapsed; the Lock Valley is flooded, and the Deep Carbon Observatory, which lies at the bottom of the drained lake, is now accessible. The adventure begins in the town of Carrowmore during the flood. The characters, thrown in medias res, are assaulted by a sequence of micro-scenes where they confront the horror of a humanitarian catastrophe. From there, they move upriv...

Session report Chime, the 16th of Iggwyld 1661 From 17.00 to 24.00 Clement, cheery weather Returning from their Haloo through the Wailing Hills, the party came upon chaos on the roadside. A pair of pilgrims and Moss, a weary cleric of St. Sedge, had been cornered by eight brigands. A cart stood abandoned in the mud, one pilgrim screamed beneath the weight of a fallen horse, and the battered cleric appeared moments away from surrender. Hidden from sight, the adventurers watched the scene unfold — and noticed something else as well: something enor...

He was lucky: not only did no one disturb him, but he even managed to have a restful night. Here I introduced my players to the concept of random encounters: there was a 1-in-6 chance that something would happen to Julius, but the dice played nice with him. We also used, for the first ...

Summer campaign 2026: Nightmare over Ragged Hollow

With this post, let's introduce the summer campaign for 2026! The module and the system My group and I will play in person the module Nightmare over Ragged Hollow using the Dolmenwood system. Some changes to the module and to the system have been made to accommodate our personal taste and the merging of the two settings. This is the campaign House Rules Document . The premise and the setting Ragged Hollow is a quaint town tucked away in a remote corner of the northwestern reaches of the Dukedom of Brackenwold. Isolated and self-reliant, it is best known for two things: the Shrine of St. Sedge, which draws a steady trickle of pilgrims throughout the year, and its thriving flax industry. Flax is at the heart of life in Ragged Hollow. It is pulped into fine paper for the scribes of St. Sedge Abbey, where books are carefully copied and bound, or spun into cloth and pressed into oil. Nearly every household owns a loom and an oil press, and during the long winter evenings, the steady rh...

Much of the opening of the session was devoted to sorting out the practical aftermath—redistributing belongings, reassigning gear, and dividing up the spoils. Once these matters were settled, the party turned their attention to the refugees from Pollnacrom, helping them settle on the roof of the buildings, sharing provisions and preparing ...
